L.E.A.P Smart!

 Cyberspace’s guardians
are right here in Bangkok

Recently something amazing took place at the Pasanusornbangkae School located in the Bangkae district of Bangkok. Mr. Chanarong Luckshaniyanavin, the President of the school, refused to buckle under pressure to make the internet available to the students at his school until he was absolutely confident that he could – and would – be able to protect them from the dangers of cyber-space. He decided to search the world for an effective solution; and if one wasn’t available, he would just have to create his own… which is exactly what he did with H.L. Craig-Hovendove, an American expat.

These forces teamed up to create JumpSmart, the safest place for children, adolescents, and teens in cyberspace, and L.E.A.P. (Learn, Earn And Prosper) Smart, an innovative learning journey through an innovative global education initiative. This may very well change the way thousands of schools and millions of kids around the world, protecting them from the dangers found online!

Besides being the guiding force, chief architect and driving force behind the L.E.A.P. Smart Project and the creator of the kids-safe YOZone online browser environment, Craig-Hovendove also created and developed over 600 animated characters, most notably the Smart Team, Phat City, and Kewlworld casts of characters and has published over 50 graphic novels and comic-books, which have brought him numerous awards and commendations for his work with children and teen.

He talks to Bangkok Trader about the L.E.A.P program:

“L.E.A.P. is Learn Earn Access and Play and Learn English And Prosper. It’s as simple as the name suggests: our student members first Learn from our fun multimedia- based e-learning modules, which earns them the required points and validation necessary to navigate throughout our system. Members’ current status must be revalidated every week by taking a minimum of one learning module. They earn cybercash, prizes, real cash, points, and other online and offline rewards. Then, and only then, are they permitted access to the reward areas: the “YOZone!” In the YOZone, they are able to get access to exclusive content, special tutoring, access to subject 		matter experts and celebrities, rewards, and many activities they love but, in most cases, must currently pay for.”

“Several years ago, I knew that one day there would be millions of innocent and vulnerable kids that would be connecting online for the first time and be exposed – and unprepared – to face and deal with the many dangers that are now commonplace, both online and offline. I decided to start the L.E.A.P. Program here in Thailand because I wasn’t able to be at the forefront of protecting kids online in America, but I was – and am – in a position to do it here in Thailand and succeed in our mission!”

“Just like the ozone protects the Earth’s atmosphere from harmful and deadly radiation, the L.E.A.P. Global YOZone protects the minds and bodies of our youth from offline and online predators and other negative online dangers in cyberspace, as well as from the dangers of drugs and illiteracy and other negative and harmful societal ills. The YO in YOZone stands for “Youth Okay,” and it’s the safest, smartest, and most enjoyable solution for the young of all ages around the world. It’s a safe, interactive, age-appropriate environment where the content is educational, entertaining, and fun.”

“Several schools are currently using our system, and we have in excess of 100,000 of our kid’s safe environments currently in use worldwide. We conservatively expect to have a million members, from ages 5 to 18, by the end the year.”

“We’ve also partnered with UltraBrowser.com, Inc. of America to develop and offer a complete online and offline safety system for children through teens that includes a customizable web browser and safe content, such as comic book style animated e-learning modules, a kids-safe internet service, a safe PC, safe internet cafés, and a comprehensive educational training and awareness program.”

“We are working on many exciting things right now, such as the Celebrity Reading Club, which will feature high profile celebrities from both Thailand and America and
